Christian Drouin Foursquare Angels 19 Year Old Calvados Pays D'Auge
Product Description

The eighth edition of Christian Drouin’s Experimental range is a 19-year-old Pays d’Auge Calvados matured in ex-rum casks from Foursquare distillery for 17 months. On the nose there are aromas of roasted apple, vanilla bean, salted caramel and pear drops, leading to notes of pine nuts, almond and pineapple throughout the palate. This makes for a perfect marriage between Calvados and rum.

    rob t- update

Just tried some more after a few days' air in the bottle- the palate is longer and better; the complexity and staying power has arrived. So, four and a half stars!

Four-and-a-third stars, really. Very tasty, lovely mouthfeel, fab nose, not the most complex length and palate, but tasty and satisfying, with decent presence. Reviews elsewhere have talked about its massive apple presence: can't say I got that. But that's fine. Big notes for me were: - general intense Armagnac-y power (I say that coz that's the brandy I drink the most. I'm no Calva expert) - a nice hint of spiciness around: made me think of cola/dandelion+burdock (don't worry, it's a subtle presence) - marmalade vibes Classy stuff. Recommended.
