Product Description

This exceptional rum was tropically aged for 9 years in ex-bourbon casks, before making its journey to Cognac, where it matured for a further 2 years and 4 months in Maison Ferrand cognac casks. Finally, it was finished for 4 years and 6 months in a Kilchoman peated whisky cask, resulting in a truly unique and complex spirit.

The flavour is an extraordinary fusion of fruit and smoke, bursting with roasted pineapple, cantaloupe and apricot, leading into a long, savoury, smoky barbecue finish. A must-try for both rum enthusiasts and whisky lovers alike

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose

Banana-forward funkiness jumps out of the glass, followed by smoky bacon crisps and hints of tar. Brown-sugar sweetness pokes through the smoke, along with grassy sugarcane, sweet caramel, barley sugar and buttery shortbread.

    • Palate

Ashy grain leads to sweet cane syrup and candied apple slices. Tarry notes are overtaken by oily notes and roasted pineapple. Spice builds: cinnamon and nutmeg with black pepper and a touch of clove.

    • Finish

Dark brown sugar and tar, with lingering barbecue smoke.

Planteray x Kilchoman x The Whisky Exchange

Planteray is renowned for its creative collaborations with distilleries around the world, so when they partnered with Kilchoman, one of Islay’s finest whisky makers, we were immediately interested.

While Kilchoman’s Anthony Wills and Planteray’s Alexandre Gabriel have worked together for many years, it’s usually been to use rum casks to mature whisky. This time it’s the other way around.

Kilchoman’s smoky whisky is the perfect foil for Planteray’s fruity Fijian rum, and as soon as we tried a sample, we asked to get the whole cask.
