The whiskeys from this era are well-known for their fruity character, and the rum cask helps take this one into even fruitier territory. Expect mango, pineapple and guava as well as soft spice and sweetness.

Tasting Notes

- Nose
  Layers of tropical fruit kick things off. It starts with unripe mango, guava and pineapple sweets, moving through sweet mango and freshly sliced pineapple rings into gummi bears, sharp-but-fragrant cape gooseberry and earthy star fruit. Coiled tight in the middle is a core of damp leaves, violets and vanilla.
- Palate
  Soft and rounded to start, with gently-prickling spice slowly building. The fruit arrives in reverse order to the nose, with gummi sweets washed away by waves of fruit. The oak and spice emerge at the end, polished and fragrant with a touch of cinnamon heat. A green and leafy note emerges last, before apples and unripe mango reappear.
- Finish
  Vanilla cream over a wooden bowl of fruit salad.
- Comment
  A big and fruity whisky, with even more fruit than I expected. The core of spice and herbal notes keeps things under control.
