The brilliance of Angel’s Envy lies in its finishing process. While most bourbons exclusively age in charred American oak barrels, Henderson chose to finish his in ruby port casks. This decision added layers of fruity sweetness and complexity that distinguish Angel’s Envy from other bourbons.
In the spirits world, ‘angel’s share’ is the portion that evaporates as the whiskey ages in barrels. Henderson imagined that after the angels took their share, they’d envy the deliciously fruity bourbon that was left behind.
Today, Lincoln Henderson’s legacy is upheld by his son, Wes. The brand has expanded to include a variety of cask finishes and has ventured into releasing rye whiskey.
