Panamanian Rum Miniatures
"Abuelo" means "grandfather" in Spanish, reflecting the brand’s heritage as Panama’s oldest rum producer. The history of Valera Hermanos, S.A. dates back to 1908, when José Varela Blanco, a young Spanish immigrant, founded the San Isidro Sugar Mill in Pesè, the first such mill in the newly established Republic of Panama. The Varela family distillery, now run by the third generation, continues to cultivate its own sugar cane, overseeing 100% of the production process. The cane is hand-harvested before the liquid is distilled and aged on the estate, which spans nearly 3,000 acres.
