Reposado Mezcal

This may not sound like much, but Mexico’s climate supercharges the ageing process, altering the character of a spirit greatly in a relatively short timespan. A classic reposado is a marriage between the agave plant's diverse character and the oak used to add further flavours and temper the spirit.

The time spent in oak as well as the variety and processing of the agave can vary among mezcal producers, leading to a wide range of flavour profiles. Many producers will use oak ageing to pair with the character of the agave without overpowering its essence. Expect fruity, herbal and vegetal flavours alongside white pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel and almonds.

Illegal reposado coaxes green fruit flavours from the agave and its six-month long maturation creates a velvety texture with butterscotch notes and a gentle finish.

Mezcal Amores Espadin Reposado is matured in American and French oak casks for three months, generating baking spice and vanilla notes that work wonderfully with the toasted nut character of its spirit.

Mezcal reposado – like its younger sibling, joven mezcal – is fantastic in cocktails. Its smoky and earthy flavours work particularly well in stirred down variations on whisky cocktails, like the Manhattan or Old fashioned, and are a fantastic gateway into the wonderful world of agave spirits.
