London Bridge

Join us on Wednesday 4 September for an Afternoon with Steven Soderbergh and Sigani63. We are thrilled to be hosting the award-winning director at our London Bridge store for an afternoon of talks and cocktails around his passion for the Latin American spirit, singani.

Each ticket to the event includes a signed bottle of Steven’s Singani63, a cocktail during the afternoon as well as a further cocktail token that can be redeemed at the world-famous Swift Borough located just next door to our London Bridge store. Additional signed bottles will be available for purchase at the event.

Steven Soderbergh is a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor, as well as the founder and owner of Singani63. Soderbergh’s career in film and television began in 1989 with his feature film directorial debut sex, lies, and videotape. The film was awarded the Palme d’Or at that year’s Cannes Film Festival, before going on to earn Soderbergh his first Academy Award nomination, for Best Original Screenplay. He went on to direct films as diverse as Traffic, for which he received the 2000 Academy Award for Directing—the same year he was nominated for Erin Brockovich—the Ocean’s trilogy, Contagion, Magic Mike, and the forthcoming psychological thriller Presence.

Singani is the national drink of Bolivia with a history stretching back to the 16th century. An unaged brandy or eau-de-vie made from the incredibly aromatic Muscat of Alexandria grapes, singani is a bright characterful spirit with a delicate floral note. It is in many ways similar to the better known Pisco of Peru and Chile, but has its own distinct history and character that is protected by a strict legal framework.

Steven was introduced to singani by film-industry colleague Rodrigo Bellott in 2007, when Bellott served as casting coordinator for the Bolivian portions of Soderbergh’s two-part film Che. He rapidly fell in love with the spirit working with the leading producer in Bolivia, Casa Real, to launch his own Singani63 brand. While maintaining his full schedule as a filmmaker, Soderbergh also led an eight-year campaign for U.S. federal classification of singani as a distinctive type of spirit, which ended in its successful recognition in early 2023.
