Amrut put Indian whisky on the map when it arrived in Europe in 2004, and Fusion is one of the stars of the range. A big, rich and warming malt that delivers a whack of vanilla, lots of fresh fruit and a smoky finish. If you've never tried Indian whisky before, this is one that should be on your list.

Launched in 2009, Amrut Fusion is a mix of 75% unpeated Indian barley and 25% peated malt from Scotland. The two are distilled separately and aged for more than four years in American-oak barrels. They are then married together for the final three months. It has won many awards, including being named Third Finest Whisky in the World 2010 in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, scoring 97 points out of 100.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Fresh and tinned fruit – peaches, mangos, apricots, plus spicy cinnamon and clove, joined by aromas of Earl Grey tea and just a touch of smoke and sea spray.

Palate: A real hit of fresh fruit and citrus-orange notes, with black pepper and cinnamon adding a zingy layer of spice. Rich and refreshing; absolutely delicious.

Finish: The spice and fruit linger for a long time.

Nose: Closed at first, but the whisky slowly opens up in the glass: heavy and spicy, with black pepper and raisins bolstered by barley sugar, toffee, oaky spice, a whiff of smoke and a thick umami richness.

Palate: Intensely flavoured and complex, with layers of fruit, spice and smoke – at first there is almost too much going on. Thick vanilla sweetness is tempered by smoky peat, and chocolate fudge is complemented by grapes and spicy oak. A drop of water makes things clearer, adding layers of vanilla cream, spiced biscuits and fruit.

Finish: Long and lingering, with rich dried fruit and gentle, savoury smoke.

Comment: A whisky with many layers which reveal themselves over time. At first there is some sensory overload, but patience and a drop of water reveal fruit, smoke, cream and a complexity that justifies the wait.

Laden with the distillery’s trademark notes of tropical fruit and liquorice, this is an incredibly balanced whisky with a delicately sweet finish.

      Tasting Notes from Stefanie Holt,
      UK Brand Ambassador

Nose: Ripe bananas, gingerbread & spiced orange (mace). With a bit of water, this develops into apricot and coconut.

Palate: Buttery and beautifully (surprisingly for 50%!) smooth with sweeter notes of Cornflakes, lemon drizzle cake and honey balancing out savoury malt notes.

Finish: Becomes gradually drier with hints of burnt toast and Brazil nuts. Well-balanced level of wood spice.
