Made By Nature Not By Rules

Independent organic distillery Nc’nean has been creating experimental spirits and pioneering sustainable production since 2013. To minimise its impact in terms of carbon footprint, pollution and biodiversity, the distillery is powered by renewable energy, using 100% organically-farmed barley and recycling 99.97% of its waste. Even the bottles are 100% recycled glass.

The Quiet Rebels

Founder Annabel Thomas started Nc’nean to change the way the world sees whisky from Scotland, focusing on creating sustainably-produced single malts that exist in harmony with the world. To achieve this, Thomas has amassed a team of similarly eco-conscious individuals that have embraced Nc’nean’s independent spirit and work together with nature. To celebrate the incredible distilling team, Nc’nean launched its Quiet Rebels series – seasonal releases that shine a light on the people behind the whisky.

100% Organic, 100% Scottish

Barley is the heart of any whisky and one of its most important ingredients. Nc’nean uses 100% organically-farmed barley from 10 farms across Scotland. These farms do not use any artificial pesticides or fertilisers, resulting in better biodiversity and better soil and water quality. Nc’nean is located on Scotland’s rugged west coast, where it's harder to grow crops, so has chosen farms along the east coast, from as far north as Elgin in Speyside to Grantshouse in the south near the English border.

We Are Whisky

Since our journey began more than 20 years ago, we’ve watched our small group of whisky lovers blossom into a passionate global community. We Are Whisky is for all the people that made this change possible, from those who make whisky – like Annabel Thomas – to the people that drink it, write about it and sell it, too. Join us in celebrating the passion and enthusiasm of the whisky world, and meet some of the people that make this community so special.
