Simple Serves:

Tequila and Mezcal

One of the very best things about agave spirits is the way they shine in cocktails. While you can absolutely enjoy a good Tequila or mezcal neat, they harmonise brilliantly with other ingredients in mixed drinks. These are a couple of our favourite ways to enjoy Mexico’s national spirits at home, no special equipment or fancy bartending chops required.

Frozen Tequila & Soda

The lightness and elegance of a good Tequila & Soda is hard to beat. For this version we’ve dispensed with the ice – to make sure the drink stays perfectly balanced – and opted instead to pour the bright, grassy Ocho Blanco straight from the freezer.

Recipe:

  • 50ml Ocho Blanco Tequila
  • 100ml Three Cents Plain Soda Water

Pour the Tequila and top slowly with Three Cents Plain Soda Water. Garnish with a twist of grapefruit peel. Nice and simple, but sure to impress. Serve this like you would a glass of Champagne, it’s the perfect way to kick off your evening. Simple highballs like this one are also fantastic with food – try it with shellfish or a nice ceviche.

Mezcal Pineapple Highball

There are few pairings in the world as perfect as agave and pineapple. This simple cocktail balances the herbal character of smoky Derrumbes San Luis Potosi Mezcal with pineapple soda and a dash of bitters.

Recipe:

  • 50ml Derrumbes San Luis Potosi Mezcal
  • 2 Dashes bitters
  • Three Cents Pineapple Soda to taste

Add the mezcal, bitters and plenty of ice to a highball glass. Aromatic bitters like Angostura work well here, but you can use whatever you have. Top with Three Cents Pineapple Soda and garnish with a lime wedge. Sweet, tasty and easy to make, this is the taco night cocktail you’ve been looking for. Serve with carnitas or a big plate of nachos. Your friends will thank you.
