Jim Beam Red Stag Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Lew Bryson for Whisky Advocate

Smells like sweet, dead-ripe cherries, mashed up in bourbon with some brown sugar and just a dust of cinnamon. It's sweet, a bit thick, but 80 proof warming, and the bourbon - the Beam cinnamon note comes out clearer now - is dominant over the cherries here. The finish sees more cinnamon, even a hint of barrel oak, and manages to dry out a bit. 83 Points

I do enjoy the taste but this is the only whiskey that will give me a headache the next morning. EVERY TIME.

It's a great tasting shot. It's so popular that our neighborhood liquor store runs out often.

This was my uncle's favorite drink before he died the day after christmas. I had a cup and cube for him today. It is smooth and has that great smokey barrel taste. A classic in whiskies. Please ignore the previous comments. Make-shift a whiskey/scotch icecube, pour a cup, And sit outside, and enjoy as I am. Thank you Jim Beam Red Stag. Your flavor is a memory. And an always treat. Cheers!

Jim Beam would turn over in his grave if he knew you were hawking this swill. What bright young mba came up with this? Fire him. Completely undrinkable.

Very sweet compared to other Bourbons but great for an Old Fashioned. You won’t need any sugar.

I have just bought a fifth of Jim Beam Red Stag because I like cherries and Jim Beam, so I figured why not? I also got a bottle of Cherry Coke as a chaser and I like it more than I expected. I have been drinking Devil's Cut for a while now and this is a nice change of pace. I did notice that my bottle of Red Stag is only 70 proof and not 80, I'm not sure if they changed it or its because I live in America. But overall I rather like it.

Thought it is too sweet to begin with, changes well to more bourbon but still not great. Far to much cheery for me, quite sickly after a coule of nips...sorry could be better!

I was disappointed. It was way too sweet, tasting more like syrup than bourbon. I tried it because they were out of the regular. I prefer the unflavored but it may work on top of pancakes.

This is potentially a very good product, but as it stands at the moment, it is far too sweet. It tastes fine to start with, especially over ice, but then seems to develop an almost sickly sweetness. Someone also mentioned the cherry flavour as being 'artificial', well, I think I'd go along with that. Again, possibly due to the sweetness. As I said at the start, this could be a real good drink. Just needs to ditch the sucrose.

Its as smooth as smooth gets, heavy bourbon taste and that lasting cherry aftertaste, well rounded and lingering
