Jim Beam Red Stag Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Lew Bryson for Whisky Advocate

Smells like sweet, dead-ripe cherries, mashed up in bourbon with some brown sugar and just a dust of cinnamon. It's sweet, a bit thick, but 80 proof warming, and the bourbon - the Beam cinnamon note comes out clearer now - is dominant over the cherries here. The finish sees more cinnamon, even a hint of barrel oak, and manages to dry out a bit. 83 Points

Found a 40% version here in the UK. Tastes very good. Quite sweet even for a bourbon and with a nice cherry flavour upfront.

Used to love this product!!! Recent bottle tasted horrible, couldn''t figure out why. Thought maybe my taste had changed. Nope, they cut the alcohol content and now this is just abysmal. Can''t drink this crap. Bring back the original or you''ve lost a customer forever.

I bought 10 handles of the 40% but I when they are gone I''m done with Stag. They are watering it down now.

To sweet. It''s not burbon. JB Triple aged it''s this what i like.

I have to agree with the other reviews, the new "Black capped Red Sag " is now watered down and is missing it''s former good taste. I will no longer buy this unless it is restored to it''s original "80 proof"

Jim Beam has now cut Red Stag Black Cherry to 70 proof and it tastes watered down now. Jim Beam has effectively taken one of my favorite flavored bourbons and made it horrendous. It now has a medicinal taste to it, like old time cough syrups. I refuse to buy this any more until they restore the original recipe!

Yes, it may be a bit ''thick'' & ''treacle-y'', but I like the dark cherry tang in this spirit, better than the southern comfort version. Would give it 5 stars but for the ''kick'' in the head it gives me the next morning
