Customer Rating

A very special rye whiskey from High West's maverick David Perkins. This is a combination of a 2 year old 95% rye mashbill with a 16yo 53% rye mash and has gone down a storm in its home country, scoring 90 points from Malt Advocate's John Hansell.

Incredible! Nose has notes of red apple, cinnamon and plum, dark velvetty liquorice and wood. Taste begins very fruity with apple and grapefruit, opens out with a lovely chewy woodiness, and finishes with a fresh mint and lemon sharpness. A new favourite!

A fabulous reminder of the long tradition of rye whiskey making in the US, which sadly largely disappeared as a result of prohibition but used to be more common (especially in New England) than bourbon. First tasted this in an excellent whiskey & whisky bar in Richmond, Virginia, and was hooked. Strangely enough, High West is produced in Utah! Been very hard to get hold of it in the UK so glad to see the Whisky Exchange is stocking it. Highly recommended.

Amazing stuff! It's a very unique, 'must try' rye for the rye enthusiast. Absolutely agree about it having gin like botanicals throughout. Licorice root stands out for me in the mouth/aftertaste as well as spearmint. In fact I can't describe it better than John Hansell of Malt Advocate. He got it bang on really. I've also had the Rendezvous Rye from Hight West too but I think I personally may actually score this Double Rye slightly more even, which in no mean feat.

This has a real kick to it but also incredible depth of flavour, certainly the best Rye I've tasted. The bottle is really neat, a very old fashioned rustic bottle with imperfections in the glass like you could imagine finding in old wild west saloons. Plus all the stuff about cowboys on the labels is a nice touch. Highly recommended.
