Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old (40%)
Product Description

The age of the Knappogue Castle vintage malts has been sneaking up in the last few years since Bushmills took over the supply contract (early Knappogues were from Cooley). Here, finally, Knappogue has cast off its vintage and replaced it with a 12yo age statement. This Knappogue has beeen bottled without artificial colouring.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    • Aroma

Opening inhalations encounter richly biscuity and malty/grainy/breakfast cereal aromas. Several minutes of air contact adds intriguing pepper/vegetal and spice notes.

    • Taste

Entry is balanced, focused, and integrated, slightly astringent and nicely fruity. Midpalate has delicate tastes of marshmallow, brown sugar, oaky vanilla, and marzipan.

    • Comment

Mellow, well rounded, well balanced, medium intensity; a bright, elegant fruit and mildly spicy taste with a medium-long, clean finish.

This wonderful Irish single malt is fast becoming a favorite of mine.

I bought a bottle of this on recommendation from Shannon Airport duty free. The customer advisor on the whisky counter asked me what I liked. I told him I'd never tried an Irish whisky so wanted to try a good Irish whisky. This was his recommendation. It's very tasty whisky. It has a warm first taste which mellows to a smooth after taste. A very nice tipple indeed.

    Cosmic

Malty nose with hints of banana, coconut and something a little more exhuberant (lychee). Palate has apple, melon and vanilla/herbal notes. Nice lingering finish. Very light but a top-shelf summer dram nonetheless. Recommended!

Meh. Another sweet fruity whiskey from Bushmills. If you like Christmas fruitcake then this might be for you. Nice gentle fruit and toffee notes. A tiny bit of pepper and cinnamon. Long finish. Not much oomph.

Very smooth, a very balanced whiskey. This one could be a reference whiskey for what a single malt should taste like.
