Originally released in March 2011, Leif Erikson was originally a travel retail exclusive that we've managed to get a few bottles of. In celebration of Erikson's trip to the New World it is made up of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, all made from American oak.

    • Appearance

      Yellow golden.

    • Nose

      Spicy, orange blossom, honey-tinged sweetness with vanilla and dried oak. Mango and melon notes with a wisp of smoke.

    • Palate

      Soft vanilla and sweet barley with a hint of grape.

    • Finish

      Muscovado sweetness balanced by wisps of Orcadian peat smoke.

    Picked this one up at a US duty free shop for about $90. I love the HP12 and the HP18 is a "desert island" calibre dram for me, but the Leif is a bit weak. It has the malty honeyed-vanilla with a very subtle peat influence that characterizes Highland Park. I would like to try this at a Cask Strength. This one may be more like a 'Toshen than an HP!?
