Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Gavin D Smith for Whisky Advocate

A floral nose with cocoa powder and warm leather, along with hand-rolling tobacco and gingery, citrus notes. Rich and elegant sherry notes on the palate, with soft smoky treacle and dark chocolate-covered orange candy. The finish is long and spicy, majoring on cinnamon with more dark chocolate, overripe orange, and a hint of licorice.

Gosh, what a great single malt. I bought this in duty free at Gatwick. A very complex scotch and 45% is plenty for me. I liked the orange and sherry overtones. I might have to order another bottle and ship it home.

Good news! I would have to buy two... One to drink and one to keep. I did that with the Mackenzie. I haven't been brave enough to open either yet though.

I was given one for my birthday and being a big fan of Richard Patersons work this did not disappoint. Well rounded and deep expression well worth a taste. Glad I opened it on the day of my birthday
