Customer Rating

An 81 proof (40.5%ABV) bourbon crafted by Wild Turkey associate distiller Eddie Russell, son of master distiller Jimmy. It's a high rye mash matured in heavily charred casks for big flavour at a more approachable ABV than the 101.

Wild Turkey 81 Proof Bourbon Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

    • Nose:

Soft, with sweet raisins, cinnamon, toffee popcorn and a touch of black pepper. There’s also rich sweetness in the form of vanilla, honey and caramelised bananas.

    • Palate:

Nice and spicy, with clove and nutmeg perking up the honeyed fruit. Not too sweet (a good thing) and a good, solid punch of spicy fruit.

    • Finish:

The soft honey and vanilla notes sit well with the spice.

My first taste of Wild Turkey 80 proof ina side by side with Jim Beam White label today. I’ve found a new bourbon! Enjoyed the mild but distinctive hint of fruit? nutty? spice? what I’m not certain, but I liked it. Will try some others, but being familiar with JB, Jack Daniels, Canadian Club, and Crown Royal, and preferring Wild Turkey to them all it may be some time before I find a worthy contender.

Bang on for around £23. £16 when on offer at where every little helps. High quality bourbon, not too sweet due to rye content (which I love). You can't go wrong.

WT is the best from entry level bourbons.

I just love the full bold flavers. I’m a Buchanan’s, Glenfidich scotch lover and for the price this is a great dram.

I'm a big fan of beam and even 101 but this lower-potency liquor is smoother than both.

Not my favourite. I found this rough. Far prefer a Buffalo Trace, Woody Reserve or a smooth Makers Mark

Definitely big on the spice notes due to the high rye mash, I may want to try the rye made whiskeys now! (bulliet / Jim Beam Rye). I'm getting nice vanilla popcorn, fruity touch of cinnamon on the palate but not so much the nutmeg or cloves but hey ho each to their own.. defo a class act, well made and matured 5 yrs and above in alligator charred American oak barrels adds to the big taste- Eddie Russell, bourbon hall of famer has done well taking over from his old man

Very tasty. Not as harsh as JD. A pleasant surprise

Benchmark bourbon. A reliable, affordable classic that won't blow your socks off but also won't break the bank. Best bang for the buck, go-to whiskey.

This is much better than the 101, but has less flavour than the 40% that used to be available in Canada. At this price, far inferior to Benchmark or Buffalo Trace (45%).

Doesn''t stay around long . I love turkey. Only liqueur I drink!!!!!!!!

  • Pauly 30 May 2014

I was never a big fan of 101. I found it a little too harsh far my taste. This, however, ticks all the right boxes. Very, very nice

Lovely whiskey, with a caramel/toffee lingering taste and a strong oaky spice kick goes wham! great on the wintery nights.

Nose: Rye, spice, corn Palate: Rye, char, cinnamon, allspice, wheat Finish: Clean and quick Personally, though the age is where it needs to be for a smooth whiskey, and an excellent whiskey in my opinion, it's not nearly thick enough for me. Worth picking up a bottle, but could use a tad more complexity.

Very smooth, prefer over the 101
