A single cask bottling of 1988 vintage Balmenach, hand picked by The Whisky Exchange and bottled by Signatory at 25 years of age. While you don't see many whiskies from this distillery, this one was a must pick as soon as we tried it - classic bourbon cask whisky, well-aged and packed with flavour.

Nose
Sweet and fruity - fresh pineapple and pineapple kubes, unripe mango, banana and fruit salad chews. Sweet vanilla cream with hints of woody spice, runny honey and touches of beeswax polish.
-
Palate
Thick, oily and spicy. Cinnamon custard up front, with developing fruit behind - sweet apple, banana, nectarine and touches of bitter apple skin. Water softens the sweetness and brings out more spice and sharper fruit - green apple and mango, with black pepper and a chilli tingle.
-
Finish
Vanilla cream, touches of liquorice root, woody spice (clove & cinnamon) and lingering sweet wood - freshly stripped willow branches.
-
Comment
An intense and fruity dram that's packed full of flavour. A drop of water spreads everything out, making it easier to pick out individual notes, while softening some of the intensity. One for lovers of fruit-bombs.
