This Bowmore release is fantastic! Needs a little time to breathe without additional water. Perfect balance of sherry and peat. Very complex with some very surprising notes. Shows the high level of Bowmore malts. One of the best Islay sherry finished malts.
This whisky is truly excellent at any price, and an absolute steal at this price. This bottle has already been released in Canada, and I was able to pick up some bottles there. In a blind tasting with some Scotch lovers, it beat out the Lagavulin D.E., and both the Ardbeg Uigeadail and Corryvreckan. Take those results with a grain of salt if you wish, or if you like an even more aggressive peatiness, but it goes to show the type of quality level this Whisky is.
My bottle from first release (54.4% abv) was dense and punchy on the nose - always love Bowmore. No water needed, just time in the open glass to breathe.
Bowmore 15 Year Old Laimrig is the limited edition cask strength version of the 15 Year Old Darkest. This is a massively fruity, lightly peated and exceptionally smooth dram despite its high ABV%. Big sherry cask notes and Bowmore’s signature salty peat make up for the distinct character of this dram. Depth, complexity and balance are intact. This is a top notch dram if not the best contemporary Bowmore available, what a great come back from this distillery. 91/100
