Glentauchers 1997 / Sherry Cask / Gordon & MacPhail for The Whisky Exchange
Product Description

A Whisky Exchange exclusive bottling from Gordon & Macphail, distilled at Glentauchers and selected by us while visiting their rather impressive warehouses. Big, rich and sherried, chosen for its fantastic combination of sweet chocolate notes and heavy fruitiness. Excellent stuff.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

    • Nose

Heavy sweetness - caramel, Crunchie bars, Eccles cakes (pastry and filling), sticky liquorice, figs, sugared plums, nutmeg.

    • Palate

Soft mouthfeel but intense flavour - barrel char and hints of sweet-cured bacon, leathery and rich earth, grown-up bitter dark chocolate cake, and rich raisiny sweetness and black liquorice to balance.

    • Finish

Spiced pastry, rich fruit, lingering berries, chocolate and smoke.

    • Comment

Big, rich, heavy and full of chocolate and fruit. Classic sherry cask whisky with an unexpected whisp of barbeque smoke running through the middle.

  • Tasting Notes by Oliver C

    • Nose

Full and rambunctious! Mince pies with a good helping of brandy butter, notes of polished wood, baked apples with treacle and raisin, and then on a third sniff an undercurrent of charred banana.

    • Palate

Nut and raisin chocolate bars with a thick jammy feel. Flavours of rum soaked dried fruits and marmalade on fresh farmhouse toast. More rich fruit, Cox's apples and dates with a crumble topping.

    • Finish

A touch of wood smoke, while more autumnal fruit flavours develop - apple and pears. The sweetness leaves the impression of homemade honeycomb cooked just a tad too long.

  • Producer's Note

    • Intense Sherry with hints of strawberry, toffee and cream soda.

The palate has black pepper, banana and apple. The finish is long and smooth.

Customer Reviews

  • Smedlet

Excellent. The best bang for your buck you'll find this year - choccy choccy choccy and some dried fruits (and some choccy). Not overly lauded but if it were Glendronach we'd all be going on about it. Cheap at twice the price, I've only bought a dozen so I don't mind letting the cat out of the bag - good work TWE!!

  • tenortelfer

Well worth your bucks! It's a cracker for winter!

Great whisky, big and packed full of flavour just like the Ledaig. Good value for money also. Nice one guys.

  • L.A.Nemeth

This Glentauchers is one of the Top Malts selected by the TWE. Dark Chocolate combined with creamy cacao and red Fruits like Piamont Cherries soaked in Rum. Little bit smoke in an long finish. Respect for this Cask. I like that a lot. Thanx!
