Customer Rating

A release of grain whisky from Japan's Nikka, produced mainly from corn using one of their continuous Coffey stills. Rather than the rare and limited releases they have done before, this is a larger release to further show off this key component in the Nikka family of whiskies.

Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by The Whisky Exchange

    • Nose:

Sweeter and fruity with oodles of sweet spice, mango, papaya, and orange peel.

    • Palate:

Toffee popcorn, with heady citrus and tropical fruit. Quite a mouthful.

    • Finish:

Not especially long lasting; rich oak and marmalade notes dominate.

    • Nose:

Sweeter and fruitier than the Coffey Malt, this is has oodles of sweet spice, mango and papaya aromas, candied orange peel and coconut.

    • Palate:

Toffee popcorn, with more of that heady citrus and tropical fruit. Quite a mouthful.

    • Finish:

Not especially long lasting; rich oak and marmalade notes dominate.

Smooth and sweet — an excellent addition to any Japanese whisky collection.

The nose predominantly vanilla and butterscotch, more like a bourbon. It tastes of honey and maple syrup.

Just bought this bottle with the intention of buying something special - it starts of a little sweetish and a little unpredictable but the real honour will fall down after 10 secs after your 1st sip. Powerfull after other words; everything you heard and read about this is true. A must-have!

The full body taste with the fruity taste is a perfect match for the Indian palate and food. It may (and I say it with caution), feel pricey. If so remember it's made with Japanese precision and good things come at a cost. Don't try to quick drink/swallow it, wait for the taste to settle. Then love the feeling on the tongue as you swallow. You will smile!

Sweet, fruity, a hint of cinnamon with a bit of an oaky aftertaste. A touch of water eliminates ANY alcohol bite and brings out the vanilla flavour. Very friendly – a great Japanese whiskey.

Usually a bourbon drinker rather than Scotch. I thought most of the Japanese whiskeys I've tried tend to be more Scotch-like than bourbon-like. This is much more similar to bourbon or even a great sipping rum. I love this stuff. Perfect neat with a cigar.

For people who tend to like sweeter whisky, this is a must try. It has a lovely smell of citrus and vanilla with a lovely aftertaste of the oak.

It is a very good whisky, but not great. I get heavy coffee , some coconut and orange marmalade. I would recommend it as an after dinner drink as it is very sweet. Nikka Coffee is to Whisky as pyrat is to rum. It would be cloyingly sweet before dinner...... for my taste. Rum

A sweet and very drinkable whisky - not in the same class as the best malts though!

Rolled the dice on this based on reviews. It is excellent. I usually lean to bourbon as it is easy to drink but this is tremendous.

Have to give this a mark hovering around five stars. Very like an earlier Ardbeg version, Nam Beist, though a little lighter and cleaner, only really lacking a resounding finish. Subtle, refined and beautifully made.
