Cask Islay is a small batch release from A.D. Rattray from an undisclosed distillery on the island. A whisky that will entice both Islay fans and be a great place for neophytes to start.Tasting Notes (1)
Golden Islay sunset.
Warm & fiery, roasting peat kiln, some citrus notes after the smoke.
Oily, burnt toffee, juicy barley and rich peat smoke.
Lively, peaty and full of flavour.
An excellent peated whisky, easy to drink and yet with a lovely body with toffee accents- despite this, not sweet. Have tried a lot of peated drams- this is the one now top of my list . The smokiness is strong, but not overpowering. In my opinion beats the Lafroig, Lagavulin, Bowmore, etc. Ardbeg and Port Charlotte come close, they are more hursh than this lovely Cask . Maybe Caol Ila would be a closer match. Nevertheless, the quality and price ( and 46%) makes this a winner in my opinion. Try it and you won’t be disappointed ( unless you are one of those who don’t appreciate the peated drams).
Given this as a gift,.This is absolutely delicious, the trouble is I can’t stop drinking it, I love the peaty whiskies , not a connoisseur but have drunk about fifty whisky types over the years. This is up their as a top choice from now on.
This has been superb from the first pour.Third of the way down the bottle and you can't fault it for the price.Has not diminished one iota.Much better than it's 18yo Orkney sibling
Much better than I expected, and a real deal at the price. I've ordered a second bottle.
Very true to the tasting notes. Absolutely delicious.
