While many expect a smoky Islay-style dram, this expression is a tribute to the craftsmanship of the distillery’s own cooperage. It is all about the "fire" used to heavily char the casks, rather than peat smoke used to dry the barley. Aroma & Texture Straight from a fresh bottle, the whisky can be a bit tight and needs time to open up. A fascinating hallmark of a fresh bottle is that if you let it rest in the glass for about 20 minutes, distinct lactic notes—reminiscent of fresh yogurt or dairy—begin to emerge. The texture is impressively oily and "chewy," a signature result of Loch Lomond’s unique straight-neck stills and the lack of chill-filtration. Palate The profile is dominated by a rich, woody sweetness. You will find notes of toasted marshmallows, melted toffee, and dark chocolate. The "fire" manifests as a sophisticated bitterness of charred wood and roasted coffee beans, providing a perfect balance to the sweeter elements.
