The first bottling in Mars's new Nature of Shinshu range – each entry is named after the flora local to the eponymous distillery. Rindo means 'gentian' and has a distinctly aromatic character thanks to ageing exclusively in a combination of ex-bourbon, sherry and Japanese wine casks.

Personally, I love it... without reading actual review on the flavor on your palate, I had described it to myself as; smoky, sweet, oaky yet spicy. Personally, I enjoy it after a whisk in your mouth, swallow, while closed mouth, breathe to your mouth but let it release through your nose, sip a water [preferably cold] and breathe completely out through your mouth. You'll taste a whole new hidden flavor. Again, that's how I drink good whiskey. Good whiskey to me is a change of flavor when slightly wash down with water. If the taste changes to I give settling flavor, that's the whiskey that I enjoy. From a smoke spicy barrel flavor to a sweet feeling smoke flavor.
This needs 20-30mins to breathe in the glass. My first experience was not great. After 2 months of it sitting there I tried again and it's a different whisky. It's young, fruity, oaky spice, tobacco, nutty, green grass. sharp and refreshing. Also goes well with ice, I would think would work well as a highball too. an interesting expression but not an every day dram.

I'm kinda disappointed with this Whiskey. I'm not sure if it's because I put my expectations too high, but yeah disappointed. There is quite a lot of alcohol burn on this, which makes the delicate and light floral notes hard to detect when first taking a sip. The notes do linger nicely however so you do still notice them. I found this Whiskey worked the best when adding ice. Cooled it down and took away the harsh initial burn, leaving the floral notes to be tasted the way they were intended.
