Glenburgie 1998 Reviews
Tasting notes by Billy Abbott (The Whisky Exchange)
Nose: Butter toffee and Murray Mints with cinder toffee and tablet following on behind. Thin vanilla-custard notes develop, accompanied by sweet floral touches and rhubarb and custard sweets. The toffee notes rise again to the fore, with a salted caramel and white chocolate chaser tempered by clove hints.
Palate: Soft to start, with sweet butter quickly fading to reveal a core of sour fruit and mossy forest floors. The fruit gains complexity, become lemon and tangerine before landing squarely in wine gum territory. Water adds cream, sweetness and a dusting of icing sugar.
Finish: Sour apple fades to leave sweet dried apple rings and wine gum fruit.
Comment: Stacks of fruit and toffee flavour with enough sharper notes to balance things out.
