Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting notes by Billy Abbott (The Whisky Exchange)

    • Nose

Red jam and custard to start – swirled together like I used to get at school. Muscat grapes roll in, adding sweetness, backed up by waxed apples and a drizzle of salted caramel. Soft spice and citrus hides underneath: a dusting of nutmeg and cinnamon on an apple pie, tarted up with a squeeze of lemon. Spiced sponge cake and tarte tatin build over time, spread with rich raisin jam.

    • Palate

Rich, rounded and sweet. Apple pie and custard sits on a bed of spice and dried fruit. Leathery notes push through the middle. Perfumed floral notes dance on top along with touches of barley sugar. Hints of char and polished tables peek around the edges.

    • Finish

Char notes fade through tingling spice to reveal polished oak, sliced apples and brown sugar. Damp leafy notes linger.

    • Comment

Well-balanced, with the sherry cask adding a slab of spice and dried fruit while allowing the distillery's fresh character to shine through.

Absolutely sensational. Benefits from a drop of water but doesn't absolutely need it. Beautifully complex dram.
