Blueberries (aka Myrtille) are native to the USA and are widely cultivated in Sardinia where they are made into Mirto, one of Italy's best-loved liqueurs. Sweet with a nice bite of residual tartness, this is wonderful in cakes, banana milkshakes and desserts, especially trifles and fruit compote or summer pudding.
