Customer Rating

'The blend for grown-ups, for people who have made their rites of passage and are ready to enjoy their success. Sweet, but not cloying. Buxom, but not overblown. Balanced. 9/10.' Paul Pacult in Whisky Magazine April 2000

Chivas to me resembles a “crossover” between scotch and more typical rye whiskey. It is exceedingly smooth, goes down easy. I’m not knocking it, but if you like peat, smoke and distinctive character, move on.

Looking at the differing reviews the old adage about one man's meat being another man's poison comes to mind. I bought this on a special offer at Sainsbury's and I'll be going back for more. I don't care for mixers or cocktails and am more of a bourbon drinker, so the sweeter taste is a big plus. Streets ahead of the NAS single malts in taste and cheaper as well.

A fairly-priced Scotch blended whisky! Vanilla, fruits and some smoke – it's worths its money!

Got a bottle on holiday and thought it was fantastic so got another when back in the UK. The second bottle was disappointing, bitter and not worth the money. You can better single malts when on offer at the same price point

This is a pleasant sipping whisky for the price but I found the nose one dimensional and the taste lacked depth and sweetness. One to have as a chaser after a few pints but not a winter chair companion.

Hi everyone I am from Mauritius. Here in Mauritius everyone loves drinking whisky and Chivas Regal 12 years is perceived as one of the best whiskies. I have always enjoyed every sip of Chivas Regal whisky for more than 14 years, now it is no longer the case. There is now a remarkable difference in the taste compared to the Chivas Regal whisky that was bottled 5 to 6 years ago. You can no longer relish that long creamy finish and is not as easy drinking and smooth flowing as before. I am just wondering whether there has been a significant change in the production or maturing process or blending process. Definitely there has been a change in the taste and this has caused a lot of upset and disappointment among many Mauritians as Chivas has always been their favourite whisky. This difference in taste has not only been noticed by me but also by my many of my friends and relatives. They do not perceive it as being value for money anymore. I can challenge the master blender that he will surely notice a difference if he tastes a sample of Chivas Regal that has been been bottled this year compared to one that has been bottled six years ago. I am making a humble appeal to the Chivas Regal Producers, to bring back on our shelves the whisky that was long recognized for its hazelnut and honey notes and its long creamy finish (one of the most important attribute of the whisky). Eh, received a bottle for Christmas from my mother so it would be rude not to drink it but I would not buy it. It doesn't have much going on, very sweet for someone who enjoys Islay whisky like I do but you don't feel bad for putting it in a toddy so it has that going for it which is nice.

I drink basically four scotches: Glen Livet, Glen Fiddish, Dewars White, and Chivas Regal 12. I rotate scotches to keep my palet sensitive to the different nuances of each scotch. My favorite is Glen Livet 12. I don't care for older aged scotches as they tend to take on a more bourbon flavor. Chivas Regal is a very good blended scotch and is reasonably priced.

Great initial flavor and then a great finish. What's not to like? I've tried many many scotches over my 40 years of drinking scotch and Chivas stands the test of time. Great sipping scotch and priced so you don't mind using as a mixer. Rusty Nail's are great with CR.

It’s very light and boarder line flat, probably a good whisky for non whiskey people to start off with, but once you’ve drunk the bottle move on

First time buyer and my first impression was like it tasted like alcohol and not much else. Definitely got better as I went. The nose is floral and pleasant but lack in depth. In general after dozen of sips I found it quite alright and pretty smooth

Exceptional whisky, with a great smell (flowers and vanilla), and a definite great taste too. Good choice if you like friendly whisky, but maybe not so much if you like a more powerful smokey whisky.
