One of our all-time favourite malts, Talisker 18 Years Old is a masterpiece from one of Scotland's greatest distilleries, and was named 'Best Single Malt Whisky in the World' at the World Whiskies Awards in 2007. Stunning balance of peat, spice and sweetness.

Talisker 18 Year Old Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by The Whisky Exchange

Nose: Rich and fruity, with plums, orange peel and toffee. Gentle smokiness and seaside character.

Palate: Sweet to start with toffee and fruit leading to darker, smokier notes.

Finish: Long, with a hint of chilli spice.

  • Producer's Tasting Notes

    Appearance: Amber.

Nose: Rich and fruity – Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel – with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind. The smoke soon advances into the foreground and the toffee note is joined by a light mintiness. With water maritime characteristics emerge – dry boat varnish, edible seaweed. Still sweet; now with notes of iodine and the smokiness of an un-struck match.
    Body: Full. Pleasant, smooth.

Palate: Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar and toffee.

Finish: Medium length. Talisker’s characteristic chilli ‘catch’ in the finish is subtly present in the aftertaste.

Baked orange pudding sprinkled with cinnamon, pomanders and a trace of manila envelope. A silky mouth feel and develops into richer orange marmalade with burnt edges.

Toffee and rich peat smoke on the nose. The alcohol bite on the palate gives way to rich sweet peat smoke, some sea notes and plenty of peppery spice. Nicely rounded and complete. Some wood, too, suggesting its age. Like chewing honeycomb and smoky bacon at the same time. Long, spicy and peaty finish. Whisky doesn’t get much finer than this.

Elegant with fascinating balance between smoke and subtle sweet fruit. Ever changing in the glass and on the palate. Gentle waves of flavour, superb balance and a classic peppery finish. Seamless.

Discovered this on a Cruise, reminds me of oak and charcoal with a hidden taste that blends very well, now have to buy some.

Must use distilled water! This Scotch is Spectacular! Floral nose, toffee turns to caramel notes which are overtaken by sea mist and pure bliss, peppery middle with a solid smoked peat finish.

The Golden holy grail of Scotch. It is unbelievable smooth and for 18yrs old it is an icon. I can't believe how perfect this Whisky is. I have tasted laphroaig lore and Dalmore K.A 3 and this is way better than both and a lot cheaper. This biggest quality I enjoy in a scotch its the three stages of taste. The nose is soft and fruity with a kick of deep rich smoke. The taste is sweet and citrusy. The devolve the is very toffee like and finishes smoky but sweet. Excellent!!!

So neat and clean, it pampers the nose with the breeze of the sea. Fully rewarding still never demanding, it often calls for a second dram.

Not the best, I prefer Storm or even Skye. Unpleasant aftertaste. There are much, much better whiskies around for this price.

The 18yo Talisker is a stunning malt whisky. I love the 10yo Talisker but the 18yo is on another level. I will be buying this again when my current bottle is finished.

WOW, what a fantastic whisky. I am a fan of the 10 year old Talisker but this is in another league and worth every penny.

I was a fan of the Distiller''s Edition but this is just as good. If comparing various 18YO expressions, in my opinion t is equally as good as Highland Park 18YO and a good bit cheaper.

This 18yr old has a fair hint of iodine and a light smokiness that does not hinder the palate when explorer the butter caramel notes. Enjoyable to say the least and has me interested in trying other drams within the same age bracket. A nice teenage bottle that definitely makes me want to expand my horizon with the 25yr old 2005 which I have waiting for me. Cheers.

Definitely a enjoyable malt with a great balance between all elements of salinity, sweetness, and smokiness. Tread with caution because you can turn a bottle up side down pretty easily making it an expensive habit. It surely holds up with other 18yr Olds but if you really enjoy smokiness, I think the Lagavulin 16 holds the upper hand and if you enjoy the overall balance then maybe the Oban 14 can give it a run for its money. I have the Talisker 25 yr old and look forward to enjoying it.

This is the best talisker whisky I have tried smooth with a peppery finish fantastic whisky glad I got it before it sold out.

  • Toronto Tim 19 May 2013

Always love Talisker & all of its bottlings, the mythic place, the waves, the Scotch - ah, the more i read, the more I want to hold one to the few bottles left in my stockpile. 18y ? well, it must be sacrificed to save the 21y CS ! ! (sigh !)...

Turtle and raspberry on the nose. Like a bat out on the town. Sensational.

  • Anonymous 3 November 2012

I put off trying Talisker malts because I like Speyside ones. It was a mistake after trying Talisker's 18 yr old bottling. This 18 yr old lives up to the praise given to it by so many fans. It is just outstanding and the smokiness just doesn't overwhelm you. I like the body and balance in this scotch. I have found a store with several bottles left in the US and they won't stay on the shelf very long

  • Rummidgy 12 July 2012

I have visited the distillery 3 times and enjoyed most of their whisky. The 18 is a masterpiece. I love the 12 but for those special times go for the 18. If you are lucky enough, try the 25 in the Old Inn in Carbost near the distillery. Heaven!

  • Matt Glazier London 2 February 2012

This is exceptional whisky.. I'm a big fan of the 10 yo but this is Whisky Nirvana... layers of golden honey, fish-oil, ginger, chili-oil, oranges, sun cream? well that's what I nosed and a host of oaks and sap oil... beautiful stuff

  • Anonymous 10 January 2012

Lovely - like licking a tyre.

  • Rod 7 December 2011

An excellent whisky! Very difficult to obtain in the US. I am told that it comes to the states in very limited quantities. If you get the chance I highly recommend getting 2 bottles, one for now and the other to save for a special occasion . I think that anyone who likes single malt will be impressed.
