Customer Rating

Very popular with rye aficionados, this must be tried by American whiskey enthusiasts. This complex, potent spirit is perfect for a rye Manhattan, and amazingly won 'World's Best American Whiskey' at the World Whisky Awards 2010, beating off competition from George T. Stagg.

Rittenhouse Bottled In Bond Straight Rye Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Mark Gillespie, World Whiskies Awards 2012

    • Smooth toasted rye note dominates with touches of honey, oak, pipe tobacco and caramel. Peppery with a hint of honey underneath and a slight touch of oranges as the spice fades, along with a hint of cola. Long and smooth with nice cinnamon and rye notes.

STILL DELICIOUS. Reviews below back to 2011 rave and it is still fantastic and affordable. Let it sit for 15 minutes and add a few drops of water. Crazy good. Every sip is a little different. Carmel, rye bread, spice, tobacco, leather and grandpa's old pipe. I think I like this more than my favorite bourbon.

I bought this whiskey solely on reputation. A reputation of being the bartenders go to rye whiskey. I must say the reputation is well deserved. This rye has everything a rye should(a warm, creamy spice on the nose, a luscious cinnamon and caramel apple with peppery heat on the tongue, and a finish that sticks around just long enough.)It does not have the one thing that rye lovers hate the most (inflated prices due to the current "hip" status of the spirit). I'll keep a decanter of this great rye in the cupboard from now on.

I admit i had took a plunge with this one. This is not subtle by any means. Its got a kick and lots of heat. I drink it neat. Nice flavours plenty of depth . A delight.

Don't compare with Scotch, this is American and its Good. A bit Smokey...Lets say peated. The first sip says ; I mean business, make no mistake it's 50%. Your lips will agree, however forgiving on your tongue and throat. Aftertone is Sweet. Try different glasses and experience different perception. Really a fun whiskey to play with...As with many more US based brands. Scotts got the name, but don't forget about the American's......Lets keep that our little secret.

As I am just getting into rye, this is a nice sipping whisky. A bit spicy and bold at 100 proof, but oh so nice. The price is hard to beat for the quality of spirit and complexity of flavors.

An absolute gem of a rye whiskey, and a good place to start if one has yet to try rye but wants to know what all the fuss is about.

This is wonderful stuff. Previously my experience of Rye was limited to Wild Turkey. On the recommendation of a certain Ms Rachel Maddow I bought a bottle of this. It is wonderful stuff. It makes a perfect "Old Fashioned", a divine "Manhattan" and is wonderful straight up or with a splash of Selzer.

Don't be put off by the cheap looking bottle this stuff is lovely. The perfect level of sweetness and spice. My mouth is watering. lol

my first rye as recommended by Jason Pyle of sourmashmanifesto. even though i've had higher proof in bourbons this feels to me quite hot in the mouth due to the high rye i guess. not a negative point though. very rich in flavour and has a lovely liquorice type after taste thing going on. terrific value. great service by TWE as always.

And absolute sublime whiskey for its price. Has a taste and a burn that's incrediably moreish. Rye is definitely the way forward. Same great service from The Whsky Exchange too...

Great whisky!, If you love BIG whiskies with demanding and complex flavours like that of Islay malts this could be a great alternative, sweet, spicy and smooth, just a great rye whisky.

Fabulous. The first Rye I've purchased and for anyone that's into their bourbon I can highly recommend it. Unbelievably good and one that I'll always have on the shelf from now on.
