Product Description
A 2010 Loch Lomond single malt bottled in September 2020 exclusively for The Whisky Exchange, after a decade in a single first fill bourbon barrel. It's focused around fruity flavour, with everything from the special wine yeast used to ferment it to the unique straight-necked pot stills creating and concentrating estery fruity notes. Aromas of baked apple, custard, vanilla, flapjacks and pine needles fill the nose, followed by notes of pear drops, peppermint, apple skin, brambles, black pepper and buttery pastry throughout the palate.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Apples and custard to start – baked Granny Smiths and sweet apple pies drenched with sweet, vanilla-forward custard and light cream. Flapjacks and spiced sponge cake develop with time in the glass, with the sweetness balanced by green leaf and pine-needle notes.
Palate
Crunchy apples and peats veer towards pear drops and boiled sweets. The sweetshop notes continue with rhubarb & custards, sherbet pips and wine gums, as well as a touch of peppermint cream. Apple skin and thin, crispy, buttery pastry hide at the back with dark berry fruit and peppery spice.
Finish
Rich stewed apples and pears fade to leave a chilli-pepper tingle, vanilla cream and sweet liquorice root.
Comment
This whisky was created with fruitiness in mind and fruity it is. The first-fill cask has added layers of vanilla cream on top of the fruit-forward spirit, which has only got fruitier as it has matured. Juicy and delightful.

It’s a lovely whisky and it is zesty & fruity but I can’t help but to chuckle at the tasting description above on the palate “Crispy, buttery pastry hide”. Will that be flaky, shortcrust, puff, choux and filo sir ?. It’s the first whisky I’ve come across that you can actually tell the different textures of the the flavours. I think this one has gone a bit to far with pitching to us customers but if nothing else taste is subjective, so we are not necessarily going to taste all those flavours, plus these flavours can change bottle to bottle so it’s a bit of a storm in a tea cup as we say. I’d agree it’s a fruity whisky so expect those sweet fruit bowl aromas coming through and picking up some of them on the palate. Good whisky 4 stars out of 5.
