Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Billy A

Nose: Modelling glue sweetness, candied lemon, spiced porridge and freshly milled malt. Fruity notes develop, with unripe mango sharpness balancing overripe banana sweetness.

Palate: Softer and creamier than the nose would suggest, with spiced sponge and lemon drizzle cakes, and sponge fingers with vanilla cream. Lemon rind sharpness pops up behind the initial softness, along with some of the sweet grainy notes from the nose.

Finish: Lemon juice tartness, barrel char bitterness and sweet cream working together in harmony.

  • Producer's Notes

Aroma: Rich, with vanilla sweetness on a layer of oak char from the influence of American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels. A soft floral note introduces the sweet spice of cinnamon, green pepper, and garden mint. Beautifully rounded with hints of green apple and banana.

Taste: Full, with the sweet spice of vanilla, cinnamon, and liquorice and the flinty note of barley grains. Ripe fruit combines with the charred oak, adding to the complexity.

Finish: Sweet spicy flavours that linger, fading slowly to leave the last word with the barley.

It's an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime. I drink it neat because it's perfect all by itself.

If you love whiskey, do yourself a favor and grab a bottle and have it neat. I'm a bit of an Irish whiskey snob, and this one blows everything else away. Price is fully justified.

I absolutely love this whiskey. It is one of the few Irish whiskeys that I enjoy over the rocks. It is smooth and those people who I have let sample it were blown away. It has me sold on drinking straight Irish whiskey.

My wife gave me a bottle for my anniversary and I was blown away. I have worked my way up over the years to the Redbreast 15 as my go to Irish and tried this side by side with it - there is no comparison. So smooth.

Still my favorite liquid. The pronounced apricot on the finish is diminished this year, but complex fruits and spices linger after the rich, vanilla nose.

This is the first whiskey I ever tasted in my life when I met my Irish girlfriends parents for the first time. I associated whiskey with whiskey cola''s and the like...yuk... But this drink is by far the best strong liquor I have ever tasted in my life, since then I started appreciating whiskey''s. will buy myself a bottle for me own christmas

Middleton's very rare, is far and above the best whiskey I have ever tasted - bar none, end of story. My wife buys me one bottle a year, on my birthday in November. Bringing it out only on special occasions, it usually lasts until August - giving me a couple of months to dream about the next bottle.

    Great whiskey indeed!!

I bought this while passing through shannon ireland airport without even tasting it. Everyone was buying jameson just because they know the brand. i chose a different path and am forever grateful that i did. This is the best whiskey i have ever drank. Im sure there are better but this is in my price range and i will always be a fan.

Recently I bought a bottle for my husband for a friend recommendation and he thinks that I am the best wife in the world. We are Mexicans and its probable that never have some like that in our country.

  • Dave 2 March 2013

This one "cured" my love of Scotch Wiskey. Best I have ever had. I am lucky to have a co-worker in Ireland who brings it to me from duty-free.
