Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange
Nose
Rich and sweet peat smoke with a thick layer of raisin jam, pine needles, earth and cinnamon-and-brown-sugar-dusted baked apples. Tar and leather develops, joined by liquorice, menthol and blackcurrants.
Palate
Dark and ashy to start, with bitter char and liquorice pastilles balanced by bittersweet dark chocolate, mint fondant and singed fruit cake. More fruit develops, wrapped in layers of ashy peat smoke.
Finish
Dark chocolate and tar fade to reveal fruit cake and a hint of lingering mint.
Producer's Notes
Nose
Sweet and peaty with medicinal notes, Manuka honey, with strong clove aroma but also grilled smoky bacon, a distinctive character of sweet leather, iodine and pine tar.
Palate
Sweet and aromatic, with rich wax and furniture polish notes followed by treacle toffee, maple syrup, bitter dark chocolate combined with oak shavings, pine needle and cedar scented wood.
Finish
The finish is long sweet and spicy with chestnut honey and antiseptic aroma lingering.
Sherry and Smoke
Laphroaig 10 Year Old Sherry Oak Finish
Laphroaig is known for its distinctively smoky Islay single malt, and this new release combines that world-renowned character with richly flavoured oloroso casks to create the perfect marriage of sherry and smoke.
Maturatation in ex-bourbon casks allows the whisky to develop its classic medicinal character, before it is filled into carefully selected oloroso sherry casks to further amplify the distillery’s powerfully seaweed-laden smoky style with layers of dark fruit, manuka honey, maple syrup and well-cured bacon.
About Laphroaig
For more than 200 years, Laphroaig has sat on the south coast of Islay producing some of the world’s most sought after peated whisky. One of the handful of Scottish distilleries which malts some of its own barley, it uses peat from its own peat bogs when drying the grain, giving its whisky the distinctively medicinal and smoky character that it has become known for over the centuries.

All the great qualities of Laphroaig with a little extra! Beautifully rich and peaty on the palate. Definitely one I would buy again.
I don't even need to drink, it takes half an hour just to feel the smell. Laphroaig is the best. Simple as that.
I love the mix of sweet and smoky. Complex, but so well balanced. A beautiful and characterful dram. ??
Complex and layered without losing the Laphroaig DNA. Amazing.
This whisky has the perfect smokiness with a sweet finish. My favorite!
