Product Description
A 2009 Ledaig single malt from indie bottler House of Macduff, made at Tobermory distillery and matured in a single cask for 12 years, before being bottled in May 2021 as part of its Golden Cask series. Aromas of purple heather, earthy smoke, orange peel and flinty minerals fill the nose, complemented by notes of vegetal peat smoke, walnuts, clove-studded orange, earthy pepper, liquorice and black cherry throughout the palate.

A good friend received a bottle for his 80th birthday and brought it round for a tasting with two other malts. This was the second we tried and it was unbelievably smooth in the mouth, a total delight and only a gentle reminder of it's 59% alc when swallowed. Unlike the other malts of the evening (46% and 60%) we decided that adding even the finest highland water would be an insult, so kept it neat. I will certainly buy again.
Okay not for the faint hearted. This is not like the great 10yr or 18 yr old this is a cask strength monster. On the nose burnt matches, sulphur, hot pepper and peat, and that 3 inches from the nose. Palate, more smoke and pepper. Put the glass down and add 3 teaspoons of water and leave it half an hour. Now the heather and green fruits start to come through and the pepper and sulphur subsides yet lingers in the background. This is a crazy dram bet the Devil loves it, a quarter way down I began to feel the love too. Will I buy another ? maybe :-)
