Product Description

An elegant fruitbomb, this medium-bodied Vieille Reserve from respected single estate producers Guillon Painturaud is quite a feminine cognac, delicate and approachable with ripe raisin & fig flavours. Unusually, the eaux-de-vie used for Guillon Painturaud Vieille Reserve are blended from a single (undeclared) vintage year and are aged for at least 20 years before bottling.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Tim F

    • Nose

Quite grapey and vinous initially. Some sponge cake aromas and a leafiness. Develops an oaky platform on which ripe raisins, malt loaf & fig syrup take turns to stpe forward. A littel nervy at first, but settles into quite expansive fruit & wood.

    • Palate

Mediumweight. Ripe and fruity, again on red grapes and raisiny fruitcake. A pleasant, mellow mouthfeel.

    • Finish

More syrupy notes as the raisin character intensifies. Dates. Quite figgy. Hints of woodspice.

    • Comment

A very accessible cognac, delicate and feminine in a very fruit-driven style.

Customer Reviews

  • Matt,

The "Christmas Pudding" or fruit-cake flavour is the fabled "Rancio" - so prized in the cognac world. Having tasted several Guillon-Painturaud cognacs I can confirm they all exhibit this wonderful property; the older they get the more Rancio you get... Wonderful stuff!

  • Anonymous,

For the price, this is one of the finest Cognacs on the market - lovely vanilla, soft on the palate, reminds one of Christmas Pudding. Check the Guide Hachette (if you read French) - they RAVE about Guillon-Painturaud.
