Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Tim F

    • Nose

Very fruity, with ripe oranges, apple pie, marmalade and plums (would I have still got those plums if I didn't know about the plum liqueur maturation? I'd like to hope so). Fresh honeysuckle and nougat aromas, sugared almonds, sponge cake, icing sugar. Expressive and exciting.

    • Palate

Smooth as a snooker ball, with delicious fresh grain, oak tannins and delicately sherried malt. Some clove, pepper and mixed peel as the sherry comes forward. The citrus is here as well, if slightly more tart like lemon or grapefruit.

    • Finish

Spices, apple peel and the last remnants of the finely-tuned grain. Nothing dominates, everything in place - the integration and balance are quite remarkable. The spices seem to build in intensity at the finale.

    • Comments

Slips down easier than a greased eel in an oilslick. This is tremendous. A hugely impressive feat of blending that proves, if there were any remaining doubt, that Japanese whisky can equal or beat anything produced in Scotland at this moment in time. Bravo.

    MaltMoment,

A refreshingly clean, sweet, fruity, and "smooth" whisky! Hibiki 12 was a must-have when it cost literally less than one-tenth of £950. At the current price it is only for fools to easily parted with their investment portfolio cash dividend.

    JDinAustin,

Smoooooooth. Hibiki is a classic beauty, and a go to before or after dinner with just one ice cube for my taste. Pleasing fruits on the nose, soft on the tongue, and a refreshing spice on the swallow. A beautiful and easy blend as a sipper or with tasty morsels like grilled chicken and vegetables. Whisky with food? Double win.

    Leigh Burns,

Just had my first taste of this sharp, fruity golden nectar; a warm flavour of wintery days. Delightfully elegant shaped container, makes a lovely keepsake.

    Anonymous,

My personal fav. Smooth yet bold and thick. Big body of round sweetness of honey and plum.

    Ross taylor,

More Japanese Magic. Normally I am a Lagavullin man but when I fancy something different I adventure into Japan. This is really really nice, smooth, subtle, well balanced and bursting with flavour. If you try one you will be reaching for another shortly afterwards.
