Knob Creek bourbon is aged for 9 years in heavily-charred new oak barrels, making it the oldest of Jim Beam's 'Small Batch' range of bourbons (which also includes the Basil Hayden's, Booker's and Baker's bourbons).

The mashbill for Knob Creek bourbon has a higher proportion of rye (13.5%) than the standard Jim Beam recipe, imparting a fuller, spicier flavour to the final bourbon
