The company, famous for their liqueurs, was started in 1755 in Bordeaux by Marie Brizard and her nephew Jen Baptiste Roger. Marie received the recipe for an aniseed liqueur as a thank you from an ill sailor she tended to, and this would become a cornerstone of the range. Later on the brand would go on to win medals in both the Paris and Chicago World’s fairs.
