Founded in 1824, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, it has established itself as one of the most famous single malt producers in the world. As the distillery celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2024, it continues to uphold the same principals as its founders by creating exceptional whiskies.
Meet Kirsteen Campbell
The Macallan Master Whisky Maker
Hailing from Thurso in the Highlands, in 2019 Kirsteen Campbell became the first woman in The Macallan’s 200 year history to take on the position of master whisky maker. Starting her career in 2001, at a laboratory responsible for determining the quality of new make spirits, Campbell discovered her love of Scotch whisky. This passion and her keen nose led her to The Macallan, where she leads the distilling team and continues to drive innovation at the distillery.
The Macallan Double Cask
This icon of the whisky world grew from humble beginnings as a small farm distillery by the River Spey. From those early days, one of the things that distinguished this pioneer of single malt was its sourcing of excellent casks – originally from Spain and later from the United States. The Double Cask range is a continuation of that legacy, each one a rich tapestry of The Macallan’s heavyweight spirit and finest quality oak.
The Macallan Sherry Oak
A fruity and full-bodied series, The Macallan Sherry Oak respects the long-standing tradition of maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. The majority of these hand-picked casks from Jerez, Spain, are made from European oak, with a smaller portion of American oak ex-sherry casks used as well, resulting in the exceptional character the range is known for.

In 2018, The Macallan officially opened its ambitious new distillery, a masterpiece of engineering and design. Now one of the largest distillers in Speyside, with space to continue growing, the future looks bright for The Macallan and fans of sherried single malt.
The distillery’s long-standing relationship with the sherry producers of Jerez, Spain, has helped The Macallan to amass an array of exceptional casks to mature its spirit in, while the distilling team continues to drive innovation and create new and exciting whiskies.
