Glenburgie distillery’s whisky is seldom seen as a single malt, and long-aged examples are particularly unusual. This 28-year-old, 1996-vintage whisky has been bottled exclusively for us by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Connoisseurs Choice range, and shows off the distillery’s classically fruity character, amplified by years in a single refill bourbon barrel.

Tasting notes

by Billy Abbott

    • Nose

Ripe pineapple and mango, honeydew and cantaloupe melons, bright and sweet green apples, and honey and honeycomb. Tarte tatin with vanilla cream, shortbread and custard cream biscuits develop.

    • Palate

Rich and oily in texture, with a millefeuille of vanilla cream and fruit: layers of milk bottle sweets, apple sauce, custard creams, pineapple cubes, Garibaldi biscuits and dried mango. Baking spice notes build alongside gentle warmth.

    • Finish

Long and softly spicy, with vanilla cream and nutmeg interspersed with orchard and tropical fruit flashes.
