Glenfiddich: Re-imagination of Time

Glenfiddich is the world’s best selling Scotch single malt whisky, but behind that accolade sits a distillery focused on time and craft. The Re-imagination of Time series is a set of three whiskies that step back through the decades, carefully crafted by master blender Brian Kinsman to show different aspects of the distillery’s character and how they are affected by time.

Glenfiddich 30 Year Old Suspended Time

This 1991-vintage whisky focuses on the flavours created right at the start of its making – in the washbacks at Glenfiddich. Here yeast release the orchard-fruit flavours that are concentrated and amplified over years in cask to create Glenfiddich 30 Year Old’s balanced fruity character.

The whisky’s packaging is made of recycled aluminium and features the distinctive Glenfiddich triangular bottle shape. The bottle floats seemingly unsupported in its tube – suspended in time.

Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Cumulative Time

Since the first release of Glenfiddich 40 Year Old in 2000, its special marrying tun has never been emptied, with some of the previous batch saved to provide the backbone of each new release. This year, Brian Kinsman added two butts and five hogsheads of whisky to the mix, creating a rich and sherry-led expression, weightier than previous editions.

Its box is made from jesmonite – a resin-based material used for sculpture and decoration – which is streaked with both upcycled copper, which represents Glenfiddich’s stills, and green glass, which nods to the ever-popular Glenfiddich 12 Year Old.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Simultaneous Time

The rarest whisky in the series, this release of Glenfiddich 50 Year is a vatting of just three casks – a butt from 1966 and a pair of hogsheads from 1968. These elegant and old whiskies carefully balance oak influence against the whisky’s fruit to create a complex and vibrant dram.

The packaging is a masterpiece of data visualisation, with every point on the outside a representation of temperature, air pressure and humidity at the distillery while the whisky matured – a tactile representation of more than 50 years at Glenfiddich frozen as a single moment.

About Glenfiddich

In the almost 140 years since its founding, Glenfiddich has grown to become not only the world’s top-selling single malt, but also Scotland’s joint-largest distillery. It’s come a long way since William Grant and his children built the original distillery brick-by-brick on the site where the modern distillery now sits.

Famed around the world for its elegant orchard-fruit-forward style, Glenfiddich is the prototypical Speysider and a benchmark for Scotch whisky across the country. While it is best known for Glenfiddich 12 Year Old – the best-selling single malt in the world – the distillery produces a wide range of whiskies and continues to push the boundaries of Scotch-whisky making with regular special and limited releases.
