Nature as the maker
Star Hill Farm, which celebrates provenance and locality, is part of a larger initiative at Maker’s Mark to champion regenerative farming practices. This storied Kentucky distillery is working to supply farmers and ranchers with the information and resources they need to work sustainably. A reminder to us all, that every great whisky begins with soil and grain.
Made in Kentucky
In 1953, Bill Samuel’s Sr purchased Burks’ distillery on Star Hill Farm, where he developed the elegant wheated bourbon that would become a favourite the world over. Margie Samuels, who married Bill in 1937, supplied the name ‘Maker’s Mark’ and even the waxed closure that made the distillery’s bourbon an icon. Far from done with innovating, in 2023 Maker’s Mark became the first distillery in the world to be certified by Regenified, a Colorado-based initiative that promotes regenerative agriculture.
