A dark spiced Caribbean rum introduced to the UK in Spring 2010, Kraken's old-style bottle and superlative packaging seem to earmark it out for greatness, and perhaps it will help some of those many thousands of punters nursing an old-recipe-Sailor-Jerry-sized hole in their hearts.

Not my cup of tea – cloyingly sweet. The nose is not unpleasant though.

Well... I Love rum especially without mixing. And for Kraken, I have few words to say, "finished already?" clean and goes with pretty much anything. My house bar can't go without one.

Amazing unusual, like a liqueur without the sweetness. I enjoyed it after dinner with a black coffee.

My first try of a spiced rum served neat. Pretty damn flavorful, though not subtle or complex. Would try it again for sure.

It's nice. One of the very few rums that you actually enjoy drinking neat. Not overly spiced too. My personal favorite is Ron Zacapa, but this comes close

Kraken is one of the few rums at this price point which can be enjoyed without adding a mixer. You are initially greeted by what seems to be a generic and artificial spirit taste with slight midicinal qualities and an alcohol burn, alongside a smidgen of cola. But give it a second and the burn disappears leaving an explosion of sweet and spicy vanilla notes with smooth caramel and ginger. A few seconds after swallowing you are made aware of a peppery note which may have been there the whole time but was previously being dominated by the other flavours. A sugary sweetness similar to cola is left on your lips afterwards. Overall a rather enjoyable rum, way more complex than its price would suggest.

This is a really nice spiced black rum. It's actually one of my favorite spiced rums - great with cola

Was introduced to this rum two years ago at the age of 18, and I am a keen rum drinker. Tried it for the first time after a long shift in my pub after we had finished closing everything and my word... Now I have had some excellent rums before, and this is up there with them. So much so that it has become one of my personal top three. Excellent vanilla taste, espresso notes too with a full bodied taste leaving a lovely cinnamon and clove finish! The ginger notes aren't as prominent but are there. However, mix this excellent rum with ginger beer and brings all those lovely spices out even more! I do generally drink it neat or a rock, and it is so effortlessly smooth. Has a lovely spicy aroma that isn't harsh on the nose, nor the pallet. Having said that it is rich but also delicate. There are so many 40%ABV rums that can be very harsh and leave your mouth burning a little, but this isn't one of them! Overall, while yes no doubt there are better rums out there, for this price point, it is easily my favorite and even today I'm hard-pushed to find a dark and/or spiced rum around this price point that matches The Kraken! A pleasure to behold, a beast in your belly as they say! BONUS: The bottle is awesome too!

Bought as a gift for a neighbour but I demanded a taster before handing it over. The best spiced rum I've tasted to date so will certainly be treating myself to a bottle.

First taste. Neat with no junk: immature but drinkable, cleverly spiced. With junk: extremely quaffable (40% rum, 60% cola, no ice). Two thumbs up for the theming. Beware the Kraken.

A decent spiced rum, though some flavors feel like artificial flavors induced to hide an unadged rum. That said I cannot say it's undrinkable. Usually best straight as opposed to mixed. It makes for a nice sweet, mellow dram when your peated scotch feels a bit much.

Very strong..almost to strong. Drinking straight...the flavor reminded me of rim and coke with lime. Mixing it was better. Over all, not the best I've had and would not be in the top 3 I'd recommend to my customers.

Purchased for a friend who LOVES this rum and the free glass mug was a bonus, which my friend was delighted with, and it added to the gift. Great website with lots of choice, reasonable prices, easy transaction, extremely well packaged and very fast delivery, therefore I would not hesitate to purchase from the Whisky Exchange again.

Sorry guys ...to me it’s just an un-aged blended rum, that’s cleverly spiced. It’s not that special, just a bit of a gimmick with a nice bottle , If you’ve read my other reviews you’ll know by now that I’m a rum drinker, and I just can’t drink this spiced rum neat, like I can rumbullion...it’s far too raw ...at the back of my mouth. Yet again.. I’m going to get the ginger beer out.. Spend another tenner and you’ll get so much more for your money.. granted it might not always be spiced though.
