Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Big! Peppery, spicy, lots of rye and caraway seed, but still fresh, with some toffee sweetness in there, too.

Palate: Beautiful concentration, with waves of spicy cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, toasted hazelnuts and a faint, fresh, minty note.

Finish: The wide-ranging spiciness lasts for a very long time.

Comment: This is a big-hitting bourbon, loaded with punchy spice. Absolutely delicious.

This is the one that gobbles at you. Have been sampling all the popular bourbons and ryes that are twice the price. This is better. Be careful though, it's smoothness will trick you into the sucker punch of the proof. I wanted more to sip just because of the elevated flavors from that proof but knew better than to go on! I'll come back tomorrow.

I'm sad I didn't discover this sooner. Such a high alcohol percentage that doesn't take away from it's amazing flavor. Defiantly a must try.

Outclasses bourbon at much higher price points. This urban legend that it is bottom shelf rain water inferior to jack Daniels needs to stop. This is what bourbon should taste like.

Best bourbon I've had. I don't find it harsh on the throat at all, and has a pleasant sweetness to it. It's 50.5% but you wouldn't notice. This can make it deadly, trust me!

This is very good bourbon. Aging is done in #4 char barrels, imparting a rich flavor. The WT folk also claim on their website that all grains used are non-GMO. there is no mention of the grains being doused with glyphosate, however. which is commonly used in the US immediately prior to harvest as a defoliant. There may be more expensive bourbons, but few offer much over this WT 101.

Wonderful stuff! The extra strength over the ''80'' puts it in a different class.

Im southern born and raised, this is my preferred bourbon. Great taste, smooth, but still a small bite which i prefer in my drink. I see that this site is in euros, which sucks for yall because that means its more expensive, but take it from me, this is a bourbon by real americans. They dont try to charge high prices and win high class awards, its just good whiskey. Cheers from America

Great bourbon, sweet caramel, with some fruity flavours in the background, and nice kick from the rye, its very smooth despite the proof, great value for money.

Fantastic!!! Having drank single malts for a while, I was sceptical about trying a bourbon. After reading reviews, I decided to give 101 a chance. What a whisky! Fantastic deep flavour with a lasting after taste. Take on board what all the fine people on here have also posted, it could knock you for 6 if you're not carefull!!!

Superb stuff - the high alcohol level 'sneaks up' on you due to exceptional smoothness. Very, very good.

I live in Scotland and have tasted a few spirits in my time, but this is the best by far. Go easy though, it is stronger than the taste might suggest..............

Evening from Kentucky. Nice to see so many fans of The Bird. Here, we sometimes take for granted it is a quality bourbon. In fact, my fondest memory of it is at 15 years old, a group of us sneaking off with a bottle and trying to split it. For everyone across the pond, I thought you might enjoy the nickname Wild Turkey 101 has in its home place. Due to 101's higher proof, it is affectionately known as Kickin' Chicken.

If you are in this price range for a Bourbon then you can only choose one in my opinion. The Dirty Bird every time
