Customer Rating
A special pot still whiskey-heavy version of Jameson. Select Reserve has lots of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks in the mix, giving it a much richer flavour than regular Jameson, with a strong sherried note.

Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Stuart P

Nose: Soft barrel-char aromas, along with sweet barley and cereal.

Palate: Very soft and smooth. Subtle spiciness and barrel char comes through, along with fresh fruitiness.

    Finish: Smooth and balanced.

Bright sparks, these Jameson guys. This takes all the worldwide quality and balance of the standard bottle and adds a large dollop of pot still whiskey, providing plummy, rich fruits to the mix. They may have also upped the effects of oak, too, so there's an extra depth to the whiskey. Fans of the brand will love it, and pot still whiskey fans will appreciate an affordable full-flavoured blend.

I would give standard jameson a 4 and this one a five simply because it doesn't burn the tongue until it reaches the back of the throat. drank an entire bottle at the bar; next morning set out to the liquor store to purchase some. the price increase is a bit of a down side but I don't mind, I love the stout notes. I love the malt flavor.

Very good. It kind of makes me think of it as the Kentucky Bourbon of Irish Whiskey. Tried it on a whim and wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

Simply amazing. A palette so rich it could fill a universe.

A bit smoother than the ''standard'' Jameson, but not enough of an improvement to warrant the price increase.

Not overly impressed but i found it quite smooth and with taste of coconut, sherry but a bit too sweet for me. I''m not saying its bad for Jamiesons is my fave Irish Whiskey but this one too sweet for me

Absolutely stunning! Beautifully sherried, balanced and complex irish blend. Actually I have never seen such a carefully crafted blend whether it is irish, scotch, japanese etc. Also very clean sherry, unlike so many sherried but semi-sulfured scotch single malts.

Nothing to add, just really good and goes down very easily. No flavor or taste hits you, it is just blended perfectly.

I'm agree with Jonathan, very special taste, rich and you can drink just with ice or without.

This is an absolute stunner. So full of aroma

Another fantastic product from Jameson's! A beautiful vanilla nose is followed by a deeper, richer flavour than their standard whiskey then a long, sweet, vanilla oak finish. A very enjoyable drink and 'must have' bottle for lovers of Irish whiskey.

    This is awesome

I've been an Irish Whiskey fan for more years than I care to remember and this is excellent stuff. Warm and friendly. Easy neat or with a splash of water, savour. Great aroma too. Smoother than a Bushmills 10

This is now the ONLY whiskey I drink... I got it as a gift and I haven't touched anything else since, I've even got my friends purchasing their own. REDICULOUSLY easy to drink, also very versatile as I sometimes drink it over ice or serve it with dark chocolate as an after-dinner treat.

I probably like the 12 year old a bit more, have to still compare some day... but this is decent, very easy to drink. I guess I have to try the gold reserve next.

  • 24 June 2012

This was excellent, and tasted of vanilla and lemons, leaving a long aftertaste. Just sublime.

  • 18 December 2011

This is fantastic whiskey. After Jameson Gold and Green Spot it is the best whiskey in world.

Although the name "Jameson Select Reserve Small Batch" implies that this is aimed at Americans used to Small Batch Bourbon, please do not be put off, it is a very good whiskey, well worth a try. It has slightly more body and a less musty more treacly nose than the standard Select Reserve, whilst being less oily than the (seemingly discontinued) Jameson Distiller's Selection 12 year old. I can heartily reccomend this whiskey.
