The long awaited follow up to the distillery only first batch, Tun 1401 Batch 2 is named for Malt Master David Stewart's favourite marrying tun, used to create this whisky. It's a multi-vintage combination of sherry and bourbon cask whiskies from the late 1960s through to the late 1980s and elegantly blends age and (comparative) youthful vigour.

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Dave Broom for Whisky Advocate

A vatting of selected casks located at Balvenie's No.24 warehouse in Dufftown, this is made up of seven ex-bourbon casks and three butts whose ages range from 1967 to 1989, all of which are then 'married' in a large vat (aka a 'tun'). There's classic Balvenie honey, along with macadamia, pistachio, and caramelized fruits. As it opens, it shifts into a high-class gentleman's cologne: musk and sandalwood with some mulberry to add depth. Elegant and magnificent. 92 Points

Absolutely amazing stuff, one of the top 5 malts I have ever experienced - I have 2.5 bottles left... If you see it - BUY IT! Thanks Balvenie, 21 Port wood, 14 yr Golden Cask and now this. Keep it coming.

Nose: thick rich honey with a lot of cinnamon spice. Coconut , vanilla, cloves. Some dried fruit also enter the "party". A terrific nose. Stunning. No less. This is a all i look for in a nose. sexy and luscious. Palate: Golden syrup, cinnamon, oak , orange peel, dark chocolate , nutmeg , sultanas and plums. Exquisite, without being too sweet, or too spicy. Balance. Balance. That’s the keyword here. Finish: Long with Dried mango, and spice. yes, simple and on the money.
