A spiced rum from the creators of Blavod, named for the red leg hermit crab that's native to the coral reefs of the Caribbean. It's infused with ginger and vanilla before being rested in oak casks to round out and marry the spicy flavours.

Red Leg Spiced Rum Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Tasting Notes by Michael W.

Nose: Strong vanilla notes with caramel and spice. Quite cake-y (it’s a word!)

Palate: Silky texture. The vanilla note is quickly subdued by strong spice but as the spice mellows out the vanilla creeps back. Quite rich, cake-y flavours. The texture becomes quite silky towards the end, very moreish. A definite keep-out-of-reach drink... Second visit, the spice is ever-present and the vanilla starts to find its footing, sticking around throughout the experience.

Finish: Medium-short with subtle vanilla notes. Spicy towards the finish.

Comments: Sweet and strong. Makes me want to camp out in the cake section of my local supermarket.

Bought some at Christmas but didn't touch it til the weekend. I thought this would be a wintery, sipping rum was really surprised how well this went down on a summers day with a dash of good ginger. Not heavy at all and I didn't get the raw rum aftertaste as mentioned by some.

Smooth and delicious, full of flavour mixed or on it's own to sip, my favourite rum....and I've tried quite a few.

Moreish, smooth, great with cola and straight up, low reviews are probably more to do with personal opinion and different taste bud condition.

Mmm ...first of all a don't get the high reviews . I'm proud to say that I am rum drinker and very proud of the fact that I take my rum seriously, and have sampled some epic rums out there . Unfortunately this isn't one of those that stands out . Don't get me wrong it's got all the spiced flavours, but it's got this raw spirit taste on the tongue that tells me it's a young spirit without any real aging process. To me it's a simple bar rum that you would mix with a Pepsi or a ginger beer . There is a lot better spiced rums out there that blow this one out of the water, the ones that I'd gladly sip with a little citrus and ice, try rumbullion,or dead mans fingers , and I'm sure you'll agree.

Enjoyed as part of a "Rumtini" with espresso. What a combination!

Nice rum on the whole for the price but it has an overpowering vanilla taste that takes any other flavours away. No1 rum for me is brugal extra viejo! And a close second is the kraken.

Sweet smooth Vannila taste at first finished of with a very slight warm spivey finish. This could be my new favourite!

I was expecting this to be good from the reviews on here and from other recommendations, and I wasn't disappointed. Has quickly become my prefferred Rum :)

Hmm, I was expecting great things judging from the previous reviews, but I was pretty disappointed. It's not high on the spices and tastes a lot more like a regular rum than I'd like. Definitely not in the same league as old recipe Sailor Jerry. I'd say it's similar to The Kraken, in that there is a distinct aftertaste of alcoholic bitterness, kind of like an artificial chemical taste. If you like rich, flavoursome spiced rums, go for my favourites: Rebellion or Chairmans Reserve.

Scored very well in a blind tasting. Sweet vanilla on the nose, gentle vanilla and ginger taste. Not an overtly spicy spiced rum. Good with coke, too.

Smooth and delicious, I'm on my sixth bottle since Christmas as everbody keeps pinching it! Just on it's own or on ice is best, it's just too good as it is to add anything to it, perfect.
