Paul John Brilliance Reviews

Tasting Notes

  • Producer's Note

    • Nose:

A complex amalgam of nougat, spotted dog pudding (sans sultanas!) and orange blossom honey with the vanilla spinning tangled webs just beneath. Honey is captured as the bourbon element expands...; a delicate gristiness ushers in a freshness to the custard tart.

    • Taste:

The mouth feel exudes star quality with the barley generating all kinds of juicy riches with the light Demerara sugars forming an elegant accompaniment. A coppery spine is soon carrying the barley in varied forms while a gorgeous cocoa sub strata heralds in the spices which buzz the taste buds at will.

    • Finish:

Beautifully relaxed: a light tingle from the spices pulses contentedly, the vanillas gather in deeper intensity yet the barley and copper stretches to the end.

    • Balance:

Yet another astonishing malt from India. 46%.

Amazing single Malt. Probably the best that has been made in India. Can easily compete with the best in the world.

Amazing single malt: without doubt in my top 5 of reasonably priced options. Very smooth with decent finish. Stunning.

A very pleasant surprise. Can hang with the better highland malts. I tried their peated a couple of days ago (I am a peat guy), which is also not a bad attempt. This is smooth, nice nose, twirly finish with a whiff of lingering smoke.

Tasting this for the first time just now my reaction was to exclaim out loud (at home alone) wow! This is simply stunning and whisky... truly amazing. The finish is not that long but oh my god this is a fantastic single malt.

Lots of layered complexity, quite a bit of residual Bourbon flavour, decent amount of age. Its not exactly subtle but really well-made, characterful and with some unusual flavours that will keep you guessing. Highly recommended to any single malt fan who wants something a bit different without breaking the bank.

Tasted this whiskey in a wine store in Calgary, fantastic product, very smooth great start, rich flavour and support finish. I was told it is made from Indian barley from Himalayan foot hills, except for the imported peat everything else is proudly Indian! Keep it going Paul John.

Superb dram from India... am already a fan of Amrut and now paul john raises the bar above.... Its very tough to find in India as most is export due to high demands... nose of honey and slight vanilla... taste was awesome i found rich berries and roasted raisins and nuts.... it finishes with a buttery note and complex flavors resting on your tongue for long.....has instant become one of my favorite...

Too harsh and difficult to swallow. Not the complex flavors of its competitor from India, Amrut. Can't say that I recommend Paul John.

One of the best single malts right at the top. Rich aroma with a smooth finish. The flavour lingers in your mouth for a while after the sip. As good as any other single malts. The only difficulty is it's only sold in Goa in India. Otherwise 100% exported.

A whisky that just has that Umami factor. Has gone down faster than any whisky I've ever had but that's probably because the missus loves it too. Don't let the fact it's from India put you off. Absolutely Sublime

What a finish, smooth & sensational. Truly surprised initially that this was Indian whiskey, but it's right up there with the best.
