Product Description
A single cask bottling of 1998 vintage Laphroaig, one of a small range of excellent casks chosen by TWE and bottled by Signatory. This whisky is a wonderful slap in the face, with huge sherry notes combined with big Laphroaig peat and intense flavour thanks to its high natural strength. A must for sherry heads.

Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Nose
Peat smoke and barley sugar, classic Laphroaig medicinal notes, with TCP dialled back and brine making itself known. Lime zest, sweet liquorice, bandages and light spice.
Palate
Sweet and stony up front, with crushed granite, zesty lime and lots of sweet sherry fruit. Black liquorice comes in from underneath, with lots of tingling woody spices (cinnamon & clove) and some driftwood earthiness. Water tones things down, revealing sweet raisins, fruity dark chocolate and delicate black pepper.
Finish
Surprisingly soft, but long - brown sugar, gentle spice, menthol, apples, dark chocolate and green leafiness.
Comment
A bit of a beast, with lots of sherry balancing a very peaty Laphroaig. At full strength the flavour is intense and impressive, but it takes water well, revealing sweet fruit and complexity that can be lost in the undiluted onslaught.

Great stuff, the best sherried Laphroaig I've come across so far. This is as good or better than the best batches of the 10yo cask str, but a little different and for once a Laphroaig where the sherry is in a perfect balance. Needs a good dose of water to open it up properly, but it's wise to add the water in slowly since each time you give it more it opens up a new taste or smell.
Best Laphroaig I've ever tried. Amazing complexity. Put it up against the Corryvrackan and Uigedail and it won. That's all folks.
Gave a drop of this to my wife's best friend last night. Lucie hates whisky, but Joolz comes from a whisky family and LOVES a good drop, so she always gets a taste of my best! She loved it, and might be after a bottle herself. Her notes? "So sweet! Like bacon when you haven't had it for the longest time!" And today... "you know a whisky's good when you can remember what it was like the next day!"
Nose – Deep, deep dark fruit. Marker pens and sauna. Prunes soaked in rum with mascarpone eaten next to a bonfire. Very sexy sherry, well integrated with smoke. Beautiful and very rich, OMG. Body – Deep, perfect peat. Rich tropical fruit tries and briefly manages to appear before being swept away by a wave of classic and intense Laphroaig peat. Toe curlingly intense. Finish – Medium. Rich, peppery tannins and massive peat and oak integration.
