Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose
Clean, citrus notes to the fore, with some peat in the background quietly doing its thing, and a smidgen of gingerbread spice.
Palate
Creamy texture, but fresh, focused and precise. The peat comes through but never dominates, leaving a sprightly, zippy malt with green-apple notes.
Finish
Clean, with lingering peat and fresh fruit.
Tasting Notes by Billy A
Nose
Mixed candied peel, candied lemon and drizzle cake, but with sharpness behind. Glazed ham touches, with some earthiness and sweet, muddy peat. Fresher fruit develops, with apple skin, sweet apple and pineapple kubes. Some more marine notes - seashells? More sweetshop aromas appear as it sits in the glass, with peat turning to fruit - foam bananas, Refresher style chews (but without the zing). Buttercream comes in towards the end, along with some tarry notes.
Palate
A mineral hit up front - granite and limestone. Sweetness comes in behind along with apple skin and pepper, earthy peat smoke, cinnamon and anise touches. Creaminess with vanilla and a hint of spirit develops as well as some barrel char. With water there is more tar and darkness, minerals and more intensity - liquorice perhaps?.
Finish
Sweetness fades to charred oak and some more apple peel. Mineral notes remain.
Producer's Notes
Colour
AnCnoc Rutter is sparkling gold in appearance.
Nose
Initially very smoky, it quickly unveils the unmistakable AnCnoc character with delicate spices, juicy pineapples, peardrops and gentle vanilla. Rich and warming.
Taste
Full bodied and bursting with peaty richness. Soft undertones of honey, creamy vanilla, toffee and leather are punctuated by the freshness of green apples.

The nose on this is something else. Peat and fresh earth, musky, woody aromatics and a whole range of fruits - both citric and sweet. You could wear this as Tom Ford. The taste and finish are rather good too. As rare as hens teeth now!
Very fine use of peat. Quite seamless Whisky, light smoke, subtle fruit, spice and barley. A classic.
This was recommended to me in TWE shop; and it''s very lovely. Crisp yet sweet, with lots of citrus. Jim Murray has just awarded this 96.5. (The other peaty anCnocs are quite as good.)
