Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes by Stuart P
Nose
Big tropical-fruit aromas at first – mango and pineapple – followed by sweet and savoury notes of ham glazed with Demerara sugar and a whiff of barbecue smoke.
Palate
More sweet fruit, tempered by savoury smokiness. Punchy and full-flavoured, with the meaty smoke balancing well with the refreshing tropical fruit. Mouth-filling texture; makes a statement!.
Finish
The smoked-meat notes gently fade, along with a hint of spent match.
Comment
A world away from the delicate Speyside style, this is full of fruit, fire and flavour.
Producer's Tasting Notes
Bonfire night: aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of sulphury, cordite lingering in the background.
To the taste this 13 year old Craigellachie delivers malty, sweet complexity, with a finish that is slightly smokey.

Initially, I was a bit disappointed, it didn’t quite live up to the body and richness scores and reminded me of a rather dull Glenfiddich. That said, it has grown on me. Like many of my whiskies, it improves after breathing for a while. Malty and fruity, it’s no sherry bomb, but it’s a solid Speyside with a spicy character.
Pure; a raw and very natural whisky; a very traditional touch from the Speyside character; I feel a very masculine and harsh note.
Strong Speyside. Very good.
Sherry maturation instantly on the nose with some new shoe leather. An unusually robust, full flavoured dram for a Speyside which sets it apart. Tropical fruits early with the faintest hint of smoke on the finish. Delightful neat or with a drop of water. Waited a long time to have this in my collection. Thank you Maureen.
